Andrew Nelles is a photojournalist with The Tennessean in Nashville, Tenn. Prior to joining The Tennessean in 2015 he was a freelancer in Chicago, Ill., contributing to a variety of news organizations, including The Chicago Tribune, The New York Times, The Associated Press, Reuters, and Crain's Chicago Business. His work has also appeared in publications such as The Wall Street Journal, Sports Illustrated, and Time Magazine. A graduate of Columbia College Chicago, Andrew has previously worked on the photo staff of The Chicago Sun-Times and as an intern for the Bucks County Courier-Times in Pennsylvania.
Andrew's work has received recognition from a variety of organizations, including a 2021 POY Award of Excellence in the Sports Photographer of the Year category, 2016 National Press Photographers Association’s Midwest Photographer of the Year, 2012 Illinois Press Photographers Association’s Sports Photojournalist of the Year, and other recognition from Pictures of the Year International, NPPA's Best of Photojournalism, Deadline Club, Tennessee Associated Press Media Editors, and the Tennessee Press Association.
