United Methodism in Zimbabwe
The United Methodist Church, based in Nashville, is in the midst of a splintering. An exodus of churches in the U.S., and parts of Africa. Known as regionalization, the move has shaken the confidence of one of the most influential Protestant organizations worldwide. The move was fueled by debates over LGBTQ+ rights and the result, the vote to regionalize and split off churches based on ideological differences, raises a deeply existential question about balancing different identities. In Zimbabwe, that question is about what it means to be a Zimbabwean United Methodist, an African United Methodist, and a global United Methodist all at the same time.
